Empowering Communities Through Small Business Training: HACORWA’s Initiative

From November 16, 2024 to 17,2024 Hands of Compassion Rwanda (HACORWA) conducted a transformative training session on small business project planning for members of the EJOHEZA, ICYIZERE, : ITEZIMBERE MUBYEYI and TUZAMURANE MUBYEYI savings groups. This initiative was part of HACORWA’s ongoing efforts to empower local communities through practical skills development, with the ultimate goal of fostering sustainable economic growth.

Rev. Sereine commenced the session with a biblical teaching based on Luke 18:9-14, emphasizing the theme of Salvation by Grace. She encouraged participants to cultivate humility in their personal and professional lives, a virtue she linked to long-term success. To reinforce this lesson, participants were divided into five smaller groups to discuss and share insights on the scripture.

Equipping Members with Business Planning Skills

The second part of the training focused on developing small business plans, equipping members with the necessary skills to create viable and fundable projects. Rev. Sereine began by collecting participants’ ideas about what constitutes a good business plan, fostering an interactive and collaborative learning environment.

She then outlined the key components of a business plan, including:

  • A detailed project description
  • An executive summary
  • Clearly defined business objectives
  • Anticipated challenges and strategies to address them

Participants were encouraged to carefully and thoughtfully prepare their business plans, as strong proposals could qualify for Vision 2020 Umurenge Program (VUP) loans.

Showcasing Innovative Ideas

Some members who had already developed project ideas were given the opportunity to present them to the group. Among the projects showcased were:

  • Vegetable trading
  • Poultry farming
  • Charcoal sales

These presentations demonstrated the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit within the community.

Looking Ahead

Although the session concluded at 6:00 PM, the process of refining and finalizing the business plans remains ongoing. Participants were tasked with continuing their work to ensure their projects are practical and well-prepared.

Rev. Sereine expressed her admiration for the participants’ dedication and innovative ideas, reinforcing HACORWA’s commitment to supporting local communities. A total of all participants attended the training, marking it as a significant milestone in HACORWA’s mission to build a brighter future for Rwandan families.
